Biography
Born in Paris in 1976, Virgil Vernier directed his first short film, Karine, in 2001, followed in 2004 by L’Oiseau d’or.
In 2006 he codirected with Ilan Klipper Simulation, the first part of Flics, a documentary diptych selected among others at the International Documentary Film Festival of Marseille. The second part, Commissariat, was released in 2008. In the meantime, he directed two documentaries: Chroniques de 2005 in 2007 and Autoproduction in 2008, selected by the Festival du Réel in Paris in 2009.
His short film Thermidor was screened at the Directors’ Fortnight in 2009 while Pandore was nominated in the Best Short category at the César in 2012.
In 2013, Orleans, a medium-length feature of 58 minutes was selected in Competition at the 65th Locarno Film Festival. The feature was released along with his short film Andorre.
In 2014, his first feature length film Mercuriales was presented at the ACID program in Cannes and released by Shellac in November the same year. In 2015, a medium-length feature, Iron Maiden, composed of videos found on the internet was released with the edition of a DVD set gathering 7 of his previous films.
Sophia Antipolis, his second feature film was presented as a World Premiere in Locarno and released last year in France.
