Laura Cahen
Laura Cahen had the childhood of a music in Nancy, learning piano, violin, guitar, singing… She released a first EP in 2012. The following year, she was the winner of the FAIR. Her tours brought her all the way to China and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Her first album, Nord, produced with Samy Osta (Juniore, Rover, Feu! Chatterton), successfully met the French scene in 2017. Her tone of voice as well as her writing immediately struck the public. But Laura has a different vision for her voice (and her career path). For her second album, she chose to work with Dan Levy, co-creator of the late The Dø and a distinguished producer.
In a water tower in Normandy, then remotely, due to pandemic lockdown, Laura and Dan played all the instruments and shaped the songs of Une fille (A Girl). Of the thirty or so originally written, a dozen pieces were retained. The title comes from the fact that the album is both autobiographical and altruistic. This girl is Laura, but also the one she loves, or the one whose story she imagines, beyond our space-time: “My characters all have to do with my life, what I am: a girl in 2020, homosexual, which is simpler than a century ago, but still not easy.” On stage, Laura chose to surround herself only with women.
Une fille is more than a second album for Laura Cahen. It is a manifesto. A straightforward affirmation of herself, of her artistic personality as of her sexuality. She has never sung so well, and, above all, never shared about herself so well.
