Biography
Trained at the National Superior Conservatory of Dramatic Art, Judith Chemla began her film career in 2006 in Hellphone by James Huth before playing the following year with Jean-Pierre Marielle in Faut que ça danse by Noémie Lvovsky .
She then joined the Comédie-Française where she played in Molière, Corneille, Hanokh Levin, Ödön von Horvath or Eduardo de Filippo’s plays.
In 2008, she was on the big screen alongside Guillaume Depardieu in Versailles by Pierre Schoeller and in Musée haut, Musée bas by Jean-Michel Ribes with Michel Blanc. She continued her film career in various roles, notably under the direction of Bertrand Tavernier in La Princesse de Montpensier with Gaspard Ulliel, or playing in De vrais mensonges by Pierre Salvadori with Nathalie Baye and Audrey Tautou.
In 2010, she created her first show Tue-tête and returned to the stage in 2013 by singing a young and crazy version of Dido and Aeneas in Le crocodile trompeur.
Meanwhile, her performance as Josépha in Noémie Lvovsky’s comedy Camille Redouble earned her a César nomination for Best supporting actress in 2012.
In 2015, she’s one of the top billing actress in Ce sentiment de l’été by Mikhaël Hers and in Une vie, adapted from Maupassant’s novel and directed by Stéphane Brizé, in which she plays the lead role. The film is selected at the 2016 Venice Film Festival.
Judith then returned to the stage, at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, in two plays: L’annonce faite à Marie by Paul Claudel staged by Yves Beaunesne and Vous méritez un avenir meilleur, an adaptation of La Traviata which she conceives with the director Benjamin Lazare, for whom she sings the character of Violetta.
All this before returning in front of the camera of Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache in their latest film Le sens de la fête.
