Danielle Arbid was born in Beyrouth and lives currently in France.
She has been directing films since 1997 and is also a photographer and an actress. Her feature films, Parisienne, A Lost Man, In the Battlefields, were selected in Cannes, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Locarno, Pusan, Tokyo, etc.
She was awarded with the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival for the serie Conversations de salon and the Silver Leopard for Alone with War in 2001. She also received the Albert Londres Prize and the Director’s Fortnight’s Europa Prize and Milan Film Festival Grand Prize as well as the Villa Medicis hors les murs award…
Four retrospectives have been held around the world for her work (Gijon, La Rochelle, Florence / Festival dei Popoli). She is currently in the post-production of her fourth feature-length film, Passion Simple, an adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s novel.
