re(discoveries)
This year, the (Re)discoveries selection showcases a new cinematic variation. Alternative versions of cult movies, some « one-time-directors », unseen director’s cuts with unlikely re-editing, many different ways of thinking about cinema revealed to us as a living body in perpetual transformation.
Often planned by studios, the necessity to revisit a universe, a character, a story, comes above all from the directors’ and audience’s desire. An artist who considers his piece unfinished won’t deprive himself from reworking on it, from a micro-detail to the most exuberant changes, even shocking the most enthusiastic of all fans. As for the film lovers looking for the ultimate version, they will be thrilled to see their cult movies gain maturity if not reinterpreted.
Experiences, hypothesis, alternative paths, unexpected reinterpretations : the movies of this selection tell us about obsession, dream and directors who had the will and freedom to claim another possible version of their stories (fictional and/or personal) and to extend the life and fate of their characters and films beyond the credits.
