Anaïs Volpé is a self-taught screenwriter, director and editor. After several years in the theater as an actress, she learned about directing by making several films, awarded in festivals, from writing to shooting and editing.
In 2016, she wrote, directed, edited and self-produced a crossmedia project : HEIS, composed of a feature film, a series and an art installation. This project was exhibited in several artistic venues and selected in several international film festivals (International Film Festival Rotterdam – IFFR, Premiers Plans d’Angers, FIFIB…) and was awarded, among others, the Jury Prize for the Best World Fiction Feature Film at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2016 and was then eligible for Independent Spirit Awards.
Anaïs Volpé then co-directed a documentary series, Dans la jungle, avec un petit couteau à beurre…, supported by the CNC Talent.
In 2021, her first feature film produced by Caroline Nataf (Unité), Entre les vagues, was selected at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes, at the International Festival of Namur (FIFF), at the Festival of Angoulême, at Cinemania in Montreal… and won the Best French Director Award at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in 2021. For this film she collaborated with artists such as Souheila Yacoub (Climax, No Man’s Land…), Déborah Lukumuena (Divines, Robuste…) or the American director of photography Sean Price Williams (Good Time, Mad Love in New York…).
