[Competition] French independent short films
A selection of eleven short films offering a panorama of French independent production and demonstrating the intelligence and creative power of a new generation of directors. A competition made up mostly of first-time films offering as many documentaries as fictional stories, memorable experimental excursions and remarkable animations.
A succession of glances at a society in perpetual mutation, making the solitudes, the revolts, the angers, the fractures, the ruptures tangible, and testifying to a need for freedom, emancipation and love. Indeed it is love that remains unanimously in question. The filial love, the friendship, the passion, the desire, the great love, the collective, the being together, the love of oneself, of one’s home, a place for everyone above all. A generation of authors who question our links and our attachments, a youth in love and in need of it, desiring and desired, a choice between leaving or staying. The initial quests that link our individual and collective memories, taking this competition to the apex of its sensitivity.
A panorama of journeys and places, encounters and memories that also question the land. From the gates of paradise to the island of beauty, from the Buttes Chaumont park to the mountains of the Alps, from a village in Serbia to the escape to Paris, from the magic of Champigny-sur-Marne to the phantom of Gustave Courbet in Ornans, from the secure intimacy of a discussion group to the immensity of space. Personal archives and collective memories are intertwined, travel diaries, parties and struggles moving at the pace of the cities that are traversed.
Eleven short films that draw a certain cartography of our country and our time, that make us dream and reflect on the state of the world and our state of being, and allow us to see everything differently, with strength, courage and the love we always come back to.
