Parent and daughter, Neal and Hannah, discuss Neal’s gender transition that began at age 62. Fluid camera movements and animated memories depict the evolution of their relationship and Neal’s personal milestones.
Hannah Saidiner is an illustrator and animator living and working in her hometown of Los Angeles, California. With a BFA in Experimental Animation from CalArts, she’s passionate about creating colorful multimedia animation, illustration, and design. Her animated short documentaries, on subjects ranging from the impact of photography on memory to the censorship of female bodies, have screened at film festivals around the world. Her most recent film, My Parent, Neal, was chosen to receive the Stephen Hillenburg grant, awarded by the Experimental Animation faculty at CalArts, to aid in production. My Parent, Neal has been screened at and programmed by several Oscar-qualifying festivals and was awarded the Creative Future Innovation Award at Slamdance Film Festival 2022.
