Maïmouna Doucouré (Feature film jury)
After studying biology, Maïmouna began working in the film industry after winning a screenplay competition which enabled her to make her first self-produced film.
She then wrote Maman(s), an autobiographical story, about a young girl in a polygamous family. Produced by Bien ou Bien Productions, the film was selected in nearly 200 festivals around the world and won 68 awards, including the Sundance International Award, the Grand Prize at the Toronto Film Festival as well as the 2017 César for Best Short Film.
In 2019, Maïmouna received the prestigious Academy Gold Fellowship for Women.
Her first feature film Mignonnes, released in theaters on August 19, 2020, addresses the theme of the hypersexualization of pre-teen girls, and was written after two years of research and meetings with French teenage girls. It is also about depicting her experience as a young girl growing up between two cultures, Senegalese and French. For its world premiere, Mignonnes won the Best Director Award at the Sundance Film Festival and the Special Mention of the International Jury at the Berlinale (Generation). It was also awarded the Coup de Cœur at the Angoulême Film Festival and the Alice Guy Prize for the best French film directed by a woman. In March 2021, Fathia Youssouf, the lead actress of Mignonnes, won the César for Best Female Hope.
Maïmouna has just finished shooting her new feature film.
