@ Johnny Hostile

Jehnny Beth is a French artist, singer-songwriter and actress, who started her career in London in 2005 where she lived and worked for twelve years, first in the duo John & Jehn with Johnny Hostile, with whom she funded the label Pop Noire records.

She was then revealed as the lead singer and lyricist of the all-female UK post-punk band Savages, with two albums ‘Silence Yourself’ (2013) and ‘Adore Life’ (2016), both nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. The band produces itself internationally and featured as guests on many American TV shows including Jimmy Fallon, Colbert and the Ellen show. In her lyrics Jehnny promotes open-mindedness and challenges the clichés around what it means to be a woman in a band.

As well as performing all around the globe with Savages, The xx, LCD Soundsystem or Primal Scream, Jehnny Beth succeeds in collaborations and co-writes with Damon Albarn (Gorillaz), Julian Casablanca (The Strokes), Trentemoeller and Bobby Gillespie.

In 2020, she released her first solo album ‘To Love is To Live’ in which features Joe Talbot of Idles and Romy Madley Croft (The xx), as well as producers Flood and Atticus Ross (NIN).

Back in France, Jehnny launched a career in French cinema in parallel to her musical activity. She was nominated for a César as Best Upcoming Actress in 2017 for her role as the French writer Christine Angot in the adaptation ‘An Impossible Love’ by Catherine Corsini. She has featured in many French movies since: ‘Les Olympiades’ by Jacques Audiard (Cannes official 2021 competition) alongside Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a lady in fire), as well as a few popular French comedies including ‘Kaamelott’ by Alexandre Astier and ‘Stick Together’ by Kervern and Delepine. Jehnny returned to Cannes festival in 2022 with the movie ‘Don Juan’ directed by Serge Bozon, in which she co-starred alongside Tahar Rahim (The Serpent, The Mauritanian) and Virginie Efira (Benedetta). Jehnny will also play in the next movie by French director Justine Triet in 2023, currently in production.

Since 2020, Jehnny has been hosting a music TV show called ECHOES for the Franco-German channel Arte where she invites young international artists and confirmed artists to play together, to discuss and exchange, thus playing a role in giving a real platform back to musicians on TV.
