Joel Edgerton grew up near Sydney, Australia. After school, he studied at the University of Western Sydney and the very prestigious Nepean Drama School. He quickly integrated the Sydney Theatre Company where he acted out both classic and modern plays. At the beginning of the 2000s, his participation to the Australian series Our Secret Lives make him very popular and opens the doors of cinema to him. He joined Hollywood where he played Darth Vader’s half-brother in Star Wars: Episode II and III. In the years that followed, he showed his versatility by acting as a round table knight in the blockbuster King Arthur, a shoemaker in the comedy Kinky Boots and a bodyguard in the action movie Smokin’ Aces. He starred alongside Cate Blanchette in A Tramway Named Desire, a performance which earned him numerous awards. More and more present on screens, his stature and his physique allowed him to play a gangster in the multi-awarded Animal Kingdom but also a boxer in Warrior and a helicopter pilot in in the horror movie The Thing, a remake of John Carpenter’s cult feature. In 2013, Joel Edgerton distinguished himself through the role of a seasoned soldier in Zero Dark Thirty then by appearing in The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann. Alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, he endorsed the role of Tom Buchanan, an unscrupulous millionaire and Gatsby’s rival. He is the protagonist of Master Gardener, Paul Schrader’s new polar.
