A Member of Parliament (Irons) falls passionately in love with his son’s fiancée. They pursue their affair with obsessive abandon despite the dangers of discovery and what the liaison could do to his complacent life and his son. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

An intimate and rebel filmmaker, Louis Malle avoided the distinctions between New Wave and modern cinema even from his first film, Elevator to the Gallows (1957). During his whole career he treated the most taboo and provocative subjects of his time, from incest to child prostitution, and the Second World War. He has won several awards (David Di Donatello Awards, Césars, European Film Academy, BAFTA and NSFC Award) for best director for the films May Fools, Au Revoir les Enfants and Atlantic City.
