Samuel Benchetrit was born in 1973 in Champigny-sur- Marne. In 2000, he published his first novel, Récit d’un branleur. At the age of 33 he began his biography, in five volumes, entitled Les Chroniques de l’Asphalte. In 2008; he comes back to cinema with I Always Wanted to Be a Gangster, winning the prize for best screenplay at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. In 2014, he started shooting Macadam Stories, inspired by his autobiographical novels.
