A supporter of the American left, in 1943 Edward Dmytryk directed Hitler’s Children, a violent indictment of fascism. His convictions get him imprisoned for six months. Despite some great hits such as The Mountain (1956) or The Young Lions (1957), Hollywood will never forgave him. Certain critics considered him, to the end of his career, as a simple technician who, although talented, was no more than a stooge for his brilliant actors.
